Of course it's the intent behind the object and not the object itself. The cricket or baseball bat isn't going to bludgeon someone to death by itself. The thing that really gets me is that the gunman in the Aurora incident was a medical student... the fact that someone studying for a caring profession could so totally go against his training and be the cause of so much needless destruction... the mind boggles.

Personally I'd like to live in Iain M. Banks' fictional 'Culture'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Culture

I'm with Tracee, someone get me out of America! I'm tired of the majority of American's views on things, gun ownership included. I have never understood Americans sense of nationalism or pride, but maybe thats because I don't see much here to be prideful about?

The main thing I've never understood about Americans is the huge importance and acceptance of Christianity.

I hate religions. They all seem so ridiculous that the idea of anyone believing the tales is unfathomable.

I realise that offense is a very subjective thing. Some will be offended by my hatred of religion. I am offended by religion. I was recently at a wedding, and before or after we ate, (I can't remember exactly) some woman stood up and asked that we all bow our heads so she could say a prayer. I was genuinely disgusted and refused.

Over here religion is viewed by many as somewhat taboo anyway. It's not the sort of thing you speak of publicly. It's accepted, but not flaunted.

On a completely unrelated note, I have a mystery for all you people of the internet.

I recently wore a hoody for a short moment. There are two possibilities, both being very plausible.

1. It shrunk in the tumble drier.
2. My 3 weeks of pissing around with my weights has been more significant than previously thought, and my hair has also got larger.

What do we reckon?

I agree completely. I'm envious of people who have grown up in countries where the Christian agenda isn't constantly shoved down your throat (obviously it happens else where, buts its so wide spread in America). I feel the same way about religion mostly, and probably because I couldn't count the number of times I've been glared at/talked down to for not praying before meals, going to church ect. It's such fucking bull shit, I'm SO tired of religion and it's agenda. Here, non-Christians are so looked down upon its incredible.

Well making sure that you have all the necessities for your family is probably a good to do before you leave a country...or move anywhere for that matter.

I can dig it.. but once again.. that's not the countries fault nor problem...

Don't get me wrong.. I'm not in love with the country to where I don't see its faults.. I can see the forest in spite of the trees..

This country has some of the biggest FUBARs of all time... but trust me, it could be worse..

The US is in shambles.. we have turned our back on our own people to simply advance our own status and cast off those that aren't as fortunate as others.. we have allowed things to come to the point we are at now.. the people have let crooked ass politicians become entrenched in power to where we can't remove them anymore.. we have allowed the pharmaceutical companys rape our wallets for so long, its beyond the point of repair.. the best we can try to do now is baby steps to start the wheel in motion so that MAYBE down the road we can have some form of decency and pride in our countrymen...

The whole fucking society is failing because we glorify ignorance instead of punishing it.. we are indoctrinated to believe whatever they spoonfeed us on the nightly news and shrug off corruption..

For any change to ty to be birthed, we (Americans) need to make a stand and declare enough is enough and we are tired of the bullshit and lies..

Running away solves no problems.. no matter where you live..

I can't figure out how to attach a stupid video here from youtube, so... I'll give you the web address I guess.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16K6m3Ua ... re=related

I'm not American, but I liked this. It seems like an accidental honest moment, but it's a scripted moment from a new show on HBO. I also haven't seen that. Just this.
