Overall, watching it felt a bit like that sensation you get when someone you respect and admire shakes your hand after they've just had a wee; you still admire them but you feel slightly violated.

I've only had my dreads for a week, so when one of the only two people at my Uni with dreads turned around in a lecture to wave at me and nod I was so happy. His dreads are down past his waist and gorgeous, so I got a little bit excited. Got some strange looks from people sat around me though, especially as I didn't know any of them...

Sitting in the pub last night with my husband, brother & sister-in-law, and these three pretty tipsy kids wandered up to say Happy New Year (!) - two lads and a lass who turned out to be 18 & 19 year olds (awww so sweet!). The lass insisted on giving us all a hug and when she got round to me she exclaimed 'Oh I love your hair!!' - it wasn't even down in all it's messy glory, but up in a slightly messy updo with twirly bit of locs sticking out all over the place, and a green spotty ribbon as a headband. Gave us a good chuckle after they left.

4-5 times now small children in the grocery store have hollered "Mommy! Mommy! Look at her hair! It's pretty, mommy!". The cool thing is that every time the mom has been positive..."oh, you like her hair? It's pretty, isn't it?" instead of hushing them up.

I used to get a comment once a month or so because it was hip length. Now that it's dreaded it's at least once a week...and I don't go in public much more often than that.
