I dont know if you've seen it but this sums up for me why the PETA is a rediculous orgainsation:
http://anniemayhem.com/wordpress/?p=4438

Its discusting the way they kill animals without any reason. "to prevent them from being abused" doesnt fly in my book. Seriously, if they piss you off then just stop getting their emails. Too me they aren't worth the time of day and tbh I dont think they are worth anyones time!

I'm another of the "for animal welfare, against PETA crowd"(though not vegetarian), pretty much for the same reasons others have given. Questionable methods of advertising and operations etc.

I mostly just ignore them and try not to roll my eyes too much when they come up.

Why not send them a mail telling them why you dislike them, then cut all ties with them?
Actions speak louder than words.

Incorrect opinion, Spiderman. I personally would find it highly hypocritical to claim to hate an organisation and not keep up with what they're doing.

For example, I have an extreme dislike of the UK tabloid, 'The Sun', but I visit their free website a lot in a week to get a glimpse of what they're saying about things. How would I know that my views against them were still valid, otherwise?

Well thank you for telling me my opinion is incorrect. It's always nice to be told what opinions one should hold.

I dislike rape, so should I hope for more rapes to be reported so I can still see if I dislike rape?

If you think PETA or The Sun are full of shit, and have been for many years, I doubt they're going to change anytime soon. By remaining a member of their mailing lists etc, the message you're giving to PETA is "I like what you're doing so want to find out as much about you as possible".....by unsubscribing, they'll then have one person less whom they think will like them.

That's an awful analogy that doesn't work in any sense. You've suggested that keeping up with PETA's activities is akin to being part of the problem so presumably this would mean that anyone who reads about a rape becomes partly responsible? Either that or it's an awful metaphor that collapses instantly.

Are you at all familiar with the concept of having an informed opinion about something? Generally the way it works is that you collect - from a wide variety of sources - as much information about a particular subject as possible, and then use that to form a opinion that may or may not change based on new data. Generally speaking, I would say that the best way to judge PETA on their actions is to actually know something about what they're doing right now, in their own words, as well as views from neutral sources otherwise, ten years from now, you could be walking around saying what a piece of shit PETA is regardless of the fact they've completely turned it around. Is your opinion worth anything then, if you're not even prepared to base it in the present?

Staying informed by remaining signed up to a newsletter does not automatically equal supporting a company. OK, so The Sun get a hit on their adverts every time I visit. So what? Those things only pay up about 10p per 1000 impressions - I don't personally care if they make 0.0001 of a pence every time I visit, it's irrelevant. I'm not a regular visitor. I check in to their front page, see the headlines and main stories, then leave. This is not supporting The Sun, this is not having a tangible affect on their earnings as they're the most popular newspaper in the country, but it allows me to go "Yep, still talking shit" and know that my opinion of them is not due a re-think.

Frankly, anyone who is not prepared to inform themselves on a subject before taking a dramatic stance on it does not have an opinion worth listening to.

And as for this...

I was no ruder to you than you were to the original poster. The fact you went on to compare keeping in touch with PETA to in-directly supporting rape says it all.

im vegetarian too... but peta doesnt seem to have animals on the mind at all times... they try and push people to not eat meat, which is unfair. I believe people are to do what they want to do... I dont think Ive ever had someone who eats meat telling me I should go eat some chicken... where i see it all the time with peta... in fact, you see a lot of vegetarians telling vegetarians to go vegan!

Haha, I actually get told stuff like that on a weekly basis, people saying it's ridiculous to be a Vegetarian and acting like I'm going to be really preachy about it but I'm never even the one to bring it up and I agree, it's every individuals choice to eat or not eat meat - that in and of itself is what nature intended, mostly. I think a lot of people's attitudes towards vegetarianism is probably due to the public opinion of PETA, which has a certain amount of misinformation on both sides, I feel.
