People ask me all the time whether or not i wash my dreads, i find it very obvious because they never look dirty or greasy and i always make people smell them just to prove my point :dreads:
But honestly, how many times have you met someone who doesnt wash their hair?
Ive only met 1, and he wraps all of them in hemp rope and claims they'll fall out if he washes them. Hes had them for what im guessing close to 3 years. Idk how someone could last that long, but you can tell...

Ouch!! I know for a fact that hemp will not fall out just from washing it while wrapped around dreads. I wrap mine sometimes and leave the hemp in for months. I still wash my hair though. With it wrapped in hemp he's probably going to end up with some serious problems from not washing it, mold, mildew, seriously damaged dreads and so on. If all the hemp is doing is holding his hair together to look like dreads because the hemp's been on too long then of course they'll fall out, he hasn't given the hair time to actually knot up properly, but it's his choice. Sooner or later he'll have to realize it on his own if he's being so stubborn about it.

He said he had dreads before that he didnt wrap and the dreads fell out when he washed them. So he got them again and to stop them from falling out he wraps them. Hes not the kind of person you offer a differing opinion to.

I back combed mine when I started and they fell out, then I just left them alone and they dreaded up awesome. Today is actually 17 months that I've been dreading, and mine wouldn't fall out if you tried. He seems lie one of the standoffish types. Like i said though sooner or later he'll learn. He'll have to deal with the real stinky dreads that people tend to stereotype us all with. He won't have much choice but to deal with it at some point, surprised he hasn't already had problems from not washing. It's his hair though. If he chooses not to take advice then he's the one that has to deal with the consequences of his own actions. LOL when he comes around and if they smell all stinky, just spray him with something fresh, then if he bitches tell him "You can't fake that funk homie, but I'm not gonna sit here and smell it either!"

Ewww! He sounds like a lost cause to me.
As for dirty dreads, how many times do we see people with brushable hair that looks bloody filthy and say fuck all about it?! The only negative comment I've had was from a stupid little school girl. As for my mates only one of them thought that dreads were dirty until I put him straight about some of the myths.

I actually get asked quite frequently about my washing habits. Its in the top 3 comments about my hair: 1:Nice dreads 2:How did you do that? 3:Can you wash your hair with it like that?

I just answer truthfully and try to educate everyone that asks about it. Even if just briefly like "yes, of course I wash them, clean hair knots better than greasy hair!"
