Bunk, but fun to think about. I'm supposed to be a greedy, perfectionist Capricorn. Astrology assumes our place in the universe as a planet matters, when stars are not really aligned on a plane that makes sense - they're just bright enough to look like they make shapes. It's very presumptuous of us to think something so much grander than us would dictate our lives. Live your own life, be who you want to be, do what feels right. There is no true right and wrong, only life.

Ahh I'm an astrology nut! Lol I totally believe in it and kind of live by it. I can see why some do and don't believe in it. I think its fascinating though! My astro sign traits are totally me. But then again I think, what if it's just not real but in our minds, like views on religion [not trying to bring up a religious debate]. But ya, if that made sense lol.

I used to dabble in astrology in my romantic youth and took it quite seriously; then I got older and thought it seemed a bit stupid to be an atheist who somehow thought it possible that the alignment of the stars and planets at my birth dictated my personality. I think the main attraction to astrology was my interest in personalities, so I chose pseudoscience as my educational route (cheiromancy and numerology also held some time-wasting interest for a while).

A few years after I dismissed astrology as illogical bunk I read an extremely devourable book called Bad Astronomy by Philip C. Plait. He had a chapter dedicated to astrology, which is also posted online for anyone who may be interested in reading:

Hooray science!

I don't know what star signs people are, to be honest! I know when people's birthdays are so I could work it out but it's not information that's ever just sitting in my head.

One trend I've noticed is that the majority of the girls I've fallen for have been Aries, even though that's apparently a bad match. Not that any of them ended up going anywhere good, mind!

That's probably cos us Aries women can be stubborn twats ;-)
The mother in law is an Aries as well and we both share a lot of the personality traits, especially when it comes to whether we like someone or not. Don't follow too much of the newspaper stuff though cos its too generalised

I had to post this piece as I just remembered this thread

This just strengthens my case on my textbook star sign! There is nothing in there I don't agree with, entirely- even the bad parts ! It's scary, I've always been the same too, ever since I was young.

Quote:
The Sagittarius woman

Never assume that all explorers, mountain-climbers and world travellers are male Sagittarians. The true female Centaur is as restless, as hungry for experience, as eager to explore the fascinating carnival of life as her male counterpart. This woman needs personal freedom to an extraordinary degree, and she's not famous either for her readiness to commit herself or for her enthusiasm about domestic responsibilities. She may be happier spending a lifetime without either. She's as likely to have a child out of wedlock and happily raise it as a travelling companion as she is to ensconce herself behind secure walls.

Walls, for any Sagittarian are like the proverbial red flag for a bull. Any career which allows space, travel, freedom of movement and opportunities for new contacts pleases the Sagittarian woman. And the female Centaur who isn't career- orientated still needs these things. Failing everything else, she'll join an ashram or become a socialite, throwing the best parties and meeting the most exciting people. You'll often find the Sagittarius woman involved in a cause of some kind, because her astute vision and awareness of larger patterns in life give her a strong interest in and concern for human welfare and evolution.

Sagittarian women can be very opinionated. They're always thinking about something, chewing over it, reading about it, discussing it. Convictions are terribly important to this woman, although they may change regularly. This is a fluid, flexible sign. Sometimes you'll see the more spiritual side of the sign in evidence in the Sagittarian woman's predilection for religion, myth, depth psychology, or various assorted esoteric or occult subjects. There's a love of the unknown and the challenging, the magical and the unexplained.

She also has a strong sense of fun and humour. Tact may not be in abundant supply. Don't expect diplomatic flattery. More likely she'll deliver a verbal punch between the eyes, not because she's cruel, but because she has a tendency to speak before she thinks and doesn't register in time that you've collapsed on the floor. She's usually right, too, which can be infuriating. She may not be strong on logic, but her sharp intuition sees right through posturing and hypocrisy.

This romantic, high-spirited woman can be pretty skittish about being tied down. If she's been badly hurt when young, she may spend a lifetime pursuing a romantic dream, forever seeking the future and avoiding the present. More often, disillusionment will mature her and help her to accept the limitations of human reality.

Don't try to possess her. And don't tell her to do something. Ask. Nicely. The dramatic exit and the slammed door aren't just for effect. She probably already bought her flight tickets weeks before. Sagittarian women need to communicate, and they need to be listened to. If you're after the quiet, docile type, forget it. Many Sagittarian women are great talkers. Some go on too long and become bores. But more likely she'll be fascinating and inspiring. She's a conversational animal who needs an interested, communicative partner. Most important, she needs to be in love. Without a belief in love, her spirit will wilt.

The Sagittarius woman is in love with life itself. Life is to be lived, not nailed down, and although she's likely to take quite a few romantic knocks (not least because her independence and craving for freedom may drive away a few frightened partners), she never loses her faith in the future. This woman is an optimist, and a believer in life's fundamental goodness and meaning. Sagittarian faith is infectious. But unlike most infectious things, it isn't harmful. Quite the opposite: it enriches life.

I don't take it very seriously but the likeness is very uncanny! :dizzy: !

I had to post when I found this thread because I actually really like astrology and am interested in it. Although I don't know how true it holds to predict things, I like to investigate personality and compatibility and see how accurate the birth charts and compatibility reports are. Maybe that's where it's fun for me, is to see whether the traits described in a birth chart are accurate to someone's personality or relationship. And ancient humankind used it as a tool to make sense of the world. All different cultures have used it, and that, to me is interesting in itself. Anyways, I enjoy it :)

I travelled through the solar system, bouncing off various planets as I made my way towards earth, a little bit of Mars war, a little bit of venus love...etc as I made my spiritual way home through the cosmos onto the unborn child.

Of course it is complete and utter *ParP*.....But, I am a Libra and with the other planets taken into account, it completely describes me. What the heck am I going to do about understanding that? It's a bit like Tarot, if you get the wrong end of the stick you could think of it as prediction mumbo-jumbo, or you can use it as a tool to quiet your mind and focus on the questions that are drowned by our modern world which linger in your mind, there is focus and there are answers, the reader and the individual, may always differ, but somehow logic comes out of chaos. It is a tool. Getting your birth chart drawn up in regards to all the planets positions is a lovely thing (And strangely often very close to the truth) but never confuse this with the magazine 'sun' signs that are generalised by writers in the newspapers. Only believe your astrology chart if it drawn up for you by somebody you trust, who you also know to be completely mad, but honest.

I think it is bollocks, primarily because Astrologers use star charts which are thousands of years out of date, and bear no relation to the actual position of the stars in relation to the Earth today.
Descriptions of Aquarians do seem to fit me very well though, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Don't get me started on homeopathy.
