Are UK members surprised every time a bomb is set off in London?

Yeah.

Violence in England is generally antagonised and spontaneous. Most of it is more of a "fuck you" gesture, intending to cause injury, rather than death. People who carry knives often don't intend to ever use them, they're just instruments to inflict fear, and show status.

"Terrorism"/large scale violence is a pretty alien thing here.

I wonder how long it's going to take for people to realise why there's a massacre in America every couple of years. :raincloud:

I know right? It has to be the guns.. not the people.. Switzerland is a fictional place that requires every adult male to own a firearm and has virtually no gun crime.. I mean, there's no way they can own guns and not be vicious killers.. right?

I think we should ban cricket bats.. more people in the UK are killed with them then in the states.. so if the number of actual items is skewed one way or the other, that doesn't matter because the object itself is the issue.. not the asshole holding it...

And Switzerland has compulsary National Service for all males (voluntary for females) which I imagine gives them a healthy respect for the necessary use of weapons. Though so has Norway and that didn't prevent Brevik from going on a rampage.

Of course it's the intent behind the object and not the object itself. The cricket or baseball bat isn't going to bludgeon someone to death by itself. The thing that really gets me is that the gunman in the Aurora incident was a medical student... the fact that someone studying for a caring profession could so totally go against his training and be the cause of so much needless destruction... the mind boggles.

Personally I'd like to live in Iain M. Banks' fictional 'Culture'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Culture

That's shows that its not firearms.. its the idiot on the other end of them.. 85% of violent gun offenders in this county are using illegal firearms.. so, if we were to abolish guns, what would change? The 85 would still be obtaining firearms illegally and the citizens would be even more helpless to attempt to defend themselves..

I fully support stricter enforcement of the control of it all day long.. I'm sick of seeing gang bangers spraying machine guns out of cars.. but I won't support the disarming of people for the sake of TRYING to disarm the offenders..

I feel liberated to take control of what I eat, and not eat mass produced cardboard and salt pieces of compressed evil that everyone loves so much.
