Hey all :) I couldn't find exactly what I needed, so I just did all my backcombing about a week ago and all the baby dreads are in, but I have rubber bands at my root and there's probably about an inch of straight hair from scalp to dread and some of them are splitting at the root (I'm figuring because the hair isn't knotted). Should I take the rubber bands out? And how do I knot the straight hair?

You should take the bands out, we recommend against using them here. The roots will dread up fine, it's perfectly normal to have an inch or two of loose hair near the scalp (and also preferable, as tight roots can be quite painful).

This, your roots will knot up themselves as they grow.
