Aarrgghhh!!!!
Right that's out of the way. For the last week I've been missing being able to brush my hair and I keep looking at styles and thinking how nice they look. As mentioned in the random thoughts thread I am going through a horrible Velcro phase with ripping and it's starting to feel like it will never end, this has been irritating me and I think where this urge is coming from.
Despite this I am determined not to brush as I know deep down I would regret it instantly. I know that the hairstyles I keep looking at wouldn't work because of how coarse my hair is, I also know that I can't be bothered with the upkeep of styles like that. More importantly I know it wouldn't be me, I am the most comfortable I have ever been with myself since I started on this journey. It has also taken a long time to get this far with my dreadlocks and I feel it's like a relationship - just because it gets hard sometimes it doesn't mean that you give up on it.

I don't know of its because I could do with a good maintenance session or not but I just need to get out of this phase (it's much like when I wanted short hair, I didn't think it through and I really regretted it). It's also weird because I'm finding myself not liking some of the lumps and bumps that I loved a few months ago as well. Uurrrggghhh this is so annoying!!!!!!!

I find when I want to brush, or just do something drastic to my hair -period- I do something odd and different. I see you have cool colours involved! Add a few colours, change it up - or I make a new hat/bandana etc.

Something to be different.

I used to have to spend 15-20 minutes ripping after a wash, but I don't have to do anything anymore.

It'll pass ;)

That's my thoughts it's just getting bloody annoying, I'm eleven months in and it's been like this since month three!!!
Was talking to my mother in law this morning though and I think some of it is coming as a reaction to situations I have no control over, when this has happened before its usually been my hair that gets it, so in some ways it's a lesson in patience and not making rash decisions.

Think I may go pink as well XD

Like Reg said, it'll pass. I too had to rip A LOT when my dreads were young, but they're 4 years in December and the older they've gotten, the less I've had to rip.
Sometimes I want to do something drastic too, like cutting them short, but that's mostly when it's boiling hot, so I just pull them up then. Or I'll put some new wraps in when I want a change. Maybe do something different with them next time you feel like that? Pink sounds fun! x

yeah i recon its just a phase sarah, i hope you dont brush as i really want to see your set turn EPIC!!!!!....and they will in time, i think a time line update is in order, sometimes seeing them everyday dosn't help and you cant see the change that others can.

i hope your ok and your dreadlings stay :)

They're staying folks don't worry! :-D
I've decided that I'm gonna go all over pink, same pink that's on a few in my profile pic so it should look awesome.
What's keeping me going is knowing that in a year or so they will start looking epic and that I've gotten through the worst phase where it doesn't even look like dreads. Talking to people has helped too as its made me think about what's causing the urge to take things out on my hair so I'm actually starting to deal with that rather than just doing something that I will instantly regret. I do love how the process of growing dreadlocks does that in a way.

SaveFerris - I know! Just when will it bloody happen?!!!!

I never really had a ripping phase  haha lucky me! But that's probably why I now have multiple fatties in the back of my head..
