Help! A few of my dreads are getting thin at the roots. It's a bit scary.
Why does this happen and how can I help it stop?
:-(
UPDATE: I had a wrap in, and I wanted to take it out because I was bored with it and because two other dreads had merged with the wrapped dread. So, I took it out. I ripped the other dreads off of the main one. And I found this:

I instantly wrapped the two together like this. The wrap at the root is tight, but the wrap down the two dreads bringing them together is looser:

HELP. WHAT DO I DO? :-( :tard: :dizzy:

That seems to be a common problem, I've heard alot about it happening near the temples and on the back of the neck.

The ones on the nape of my neck are getting congo-d. Try that and keep us up to date!

Good luck! :D

Yeaah mines around my temples, right on the hair line. I may let them congo, but I kind of like all my dreads the size they are at the moment. Eeef.

well, you know. . .dreads are a process, there's no static points along the journey.

Have you been crocheting or root rubbing much?

I think it depends what method you use to begin with. I back-combed originally and I find my roots are thinner than the tips BUT I think as time goes on - i've noticed on myself at least - hair at the root gets loose and forms new dreads.
It depends how thin they're getting - are they about to fall off or are they just thinner than the tips?
If it's the latter, leave it be and let it do its own thing. If they're about to fall off I'd recommend a bit of soft scalp rubbing to help loose hair knot up and hopefully help the dreads to stay put.
Or if you're afraid of losing them you could initiate a congo with another one nearby?
Hopefully they'll make their own sweet way and all will be fangtastic
x

congos are mostly epic, and rarely a problem.
