the person who had done my dreads said that to help them look better and tighter that she can run my hair colored thread through and around it. I was wondering everyones view on doing this and if you think its a good idea how long should i wait before i do them or any pointers or other ideas would be great.

These are called wraps, and Slang did a tutorial on how to put them in. Check the tutorials and recommendation threads. :]

through, no. around, yes. but for at least the first six months, you really shouldn't do anything. anything you do in these crucial beginning stages will ruin/halt the progress that your hair will naturally take.

I believe he is talking about the string method Sadhus use to grow their dreads, not wraps. But I'm not much help there, don't know how it is done.

I think I should not have generalized up there, I'm sure not all Sadhus start their dreads this way. Buuuuuut I read from a member on another forum that he grew his dreads from this string method taught to him by a Sadhu. You can see ElectricHead making a reference to the method HERE. He even explained how exactly it was done in another thread but I can't find it for the life of me and this was a long time ago. The massiveness of this forum only makes it harder to find so I think it got lost for good. Sadly, ElectricHead has not shown up in a good while.

The main thing im trying to accomplish is making them tight and as little frizzy hair as possible. Ive asked in another thread about using wax and i understand now that wax is bad and im no longer using it....but until i try sewing thread into my hair, can anyone give me pointers on how to keep my hair tight and as frizzylessas possible???

And what i mean when i say sewing thread in is...I was told after they get alittle tighter on their own, get thread the same color as your natural hair and knot it up at the roots of the dread and wrap it around the dreads and through them with a needle and some how knot it up at the tips.

don't do this. it'll create weak spots in your dreads.

the best thing to do to keep fuzziness down is get a small diameter crochet hook and pull the loose hairs into the dread. but your dreads are GOING to be fuzzy, especially in the beginning. they'll loop and kink and be messy looking for a while. there's really no avoiding at least some of that without doing permanent damage to your hair.
