Share your climate and what you plan to grow this year, share ideas, ect.
We recently moved down south and I can start seeds indoors in FEBRUARY! Very excited. Hopefully I can find Heirloom varieties for most things. We plan on growing:

Kale
Kohlarabi
Spinach
Lettuce
Sugar Snap Peas
Scarlet Runner Bean
Green Beans
Summer Squash
Bell Peppers
Hot Peppers
Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Strawberries
Blueberries

I'll be planting some companion plants as well to deter pests and attract good bugs. Nasturtium, petunias, marigold, thyme, oregano, and basil will be planted throughout.

I'm going to grow chillis for the first time this year. :goodvibes: I haven't planned anything else yet, but I'll probably also plant:

Cucumbers
Green beans
Tomatoes
Peas
Carrots
Radishes

And anything else I can find space for. :)

We bought our home last year and I had all these Big plans to plant veggies and flowers. Didn't know much and don't have much money to work with, and still don't so this fall I'm hoping to set up a long cinderblock rectangle in the back yard. Our neighbors have magical Green Thumbs so they can help with advice :)

So far I have planted:
Several cuttings from my mother's, and uncle's Rose of Sharon
(Rose of Sharon is my absolute Fav!)

They seem to be growing and are mostly purple a few are white. The flowered a few gorgeous "hibiscus" flowers, so we think they are rooted.

Hydrangea, I'm not a huge fan but my husband wanted it and its a staple here ;)

One Lilac bush (Think we need to buy another to xpollinate)
I'm a big Fan of these, I want them all over!

Dark Purple Butterly bush.
A few were sitting loooking about to be dumped we didn't want pink. She sold us the purple for half off the price (looked like garbage..darn my non-existant bargaining skills)...It is still green while everything is dead.

Winters here in NJ have been Wonky, One big snow after a Major hurricane. Everything is mushy.
Hoping to get enough courage to fight off mosquitos in Spring and plant my Morning Glories and Hollyhocks.

I have a Bunch of houseplants and I want so many more. Green inside the house adds so much warmth and life, my daughter is calling me Crazy plant lady..Need more windows ;p

*Sorry for long text but I'm just excited about growing anything and nowhere else ever gave me the chance to talk about it

Got a few little treats sprouting in the backyard. Mini roma tomato, cucumbers, corn, rocket, celery, strawberries and onions.

So far this year we have harvested and removed from the bed, heirloom carrots, HEAPS of snow peas, broccoli and the strawberries are just starting to colour up now and the 2 I've eaten were amazing!

Nothing like growing yer own

Starrybell, that's what this thread is for! DH appreciates the gardening but doesn't get as excited as I do! I also plan on morning glories and maybe a couple of rose bushes this year as well. I LOVE Hibiscus but not sure where to but one....yet.

timd, how easy were the snow peas to grow? We love thosebut have had limited success with peas. What's your climate like? Southern hemisphere it sounds like?

Finnskogen (30 degrees latitude)

Kale
Spinach
Tomato
Pumpkin
Butternut squash
Black and green currants (planted the bushes earlier this year, maybe they'll fruit next year)
And gonna be doing some wild-greens patches. Just lay a piece of plywood down for a couple of weeks, then remove it. Wild leafy greens (like dandelion et al) will grow up faster than the grass. Might make a little greenhouse over the patch so we can harvest leafy greens all year round

I agree growing your own is way better. Tomato and cucumber I have done myself. I always loved picking green beans from my grandmothers garden and intend on having a great vegetable garden in the future. I also want to have an herb garden. My cousin used to give me sage from her garden and I would cleanse the house with that and My godmother gave us chives and this sour leaf plant which made awesome soup. My dream is to have a rose garden, one of every color like my great aunt had. I am far better at planting outside than having them inside as I believe I have killed quite a few including my aloe :( Olly have you ever had a radish and peanut butter sandwich toasted if not try is sooo good :) Lilacs smell amazing after it rains starrybell we had those at my old house. Morning glory are one of my favs too and hibiscus tea is yummy so now that is on my list as well to grow thanks :)

To be honest they pretty much grew themselves, threw about 6 seeds I a row with a couple of sticks to climb on and a wall then watered when it didn't rain.

Winters are cold but not extreme.. It'll usually max out at 10deg c, minimum -10 at night..
